Finding God's Grace in Change
A Reflection on the Menopause Journey -Menopause arrives differently for every woman, but it always arrives as a season of change. The body shifts, sleep grows unpredictable, emotions rise and fall without warning, and life's familiar rhythms begin to feel unfamiliar. Scripture reminds us that seasons are not accidents but part of God's design. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NKJV). This transition, as disorienting as it can feel, is still held within God's ordered plan for our lives. Recognizing menopause as a season, rather than a loss, opens the door to meeting it with faith instead of fear.
Still, seasons of change often expose our weakness. Fatigue, hot flashes, and moments of forgetfulness or sadness that seem to come from nowhere can leave a woman feeling like she has lost control of her body and mind. It is in exactly this kind of weakness that Paul heard the Lord's answer: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NKJV). God does not ask us to push through menopause on our own strength. He offers His grace precisely where our strength runs out, and that grace is enough, not as a consolation, but as the very power we need to walk through each day.
While the outward body changes, and at times aches under the weight of that change, Scripture points to a deeper, quieter work happening within. Paul writes, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16, NKJV). Menopause can feel like an ending, but for the woman who walks with God, it can also be the ground where something new takes root: a deeper faith, a settled identity, and a spirit that grows even as the body changes. This is the heart behind calling it a second bloom rather than a fading. Psalm 92:14 promises that those planted in the Lord “shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing” (Psalm 92:14, NKJV).
None of this means the journey is easy, and no woman should feel she has to walk it alone. Community, honest conversation, and prayer matter as much as understanding the Scriptures. Lamentations offers a steady anchor for the days that feel hardest: “Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22 to 23, NKJV). Whatever this season holds, His mercy meets us fresh each day. Menopause may change the body, but it cannot change God's faithfulness, and that grace is worth holding onto through every change.
